As of January 1, 2017 the following vehicles will no longer be maintained due to being exempt from titling:

 

• Trailers more than twenty (20) model years which would include all 1996 and prior year model trailers.

• Motor vehicles more than thirty-five (35) model years old which would include all 1981 and prior year model vehicles

• All low speed vehicles

• Manufactured homes more than twenty (20) model years old which would include all 1996 and prior year manufactured homes.

 

 

I PAID MY VEHICLE OFF, WHAT NEXT? 

 

—Once you pay off your vehicle you are more than welcome to come into the probate office with your title and lien release letter and get the lien holders name taken off of your title.  You are not required to do so as the sign off on the front of the title is sufficient enough if you are ever in a situation where you would like to sell the vehicle.

 

—I WILL BE OUT OF STATE AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TITLE MY VEHICLE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

 

 

1. Vehicle Power of Attorney Form: This form is used in the event the titling owner can not be here to title and register their vehicle.  The owner can give vehicle power of attorney to someone to come in place of them.  The owner will sign this form in front of a notary and have the individual bring it with them. 

2. If the title is from out of state a VIN Inspection Form must be completed by the state officer and brought in with the Power of Attorney Form.  That form can be found by clicking here.

 

I AM MOVING FROM OUT OF STATE AND NEED TO GET MY VEHICLE REGISTERED, WHAT WILL I NEED TO BRING?

 

• Title (If the vehicle is financed, please obtain a copy of the face of the title or electronic title from lienholder)

• Alabama Insurance

• Driver's License for each individual on the title

• Vehicle to the courthouse for a VIN inspection or a VIN inspection form to be filled out by state officer (per Alabama law, anything coming from a different state must have a VIN inspection completed)
